Alnwick CastleThe Alnwick Youth Hostel provides an ideal base from which to explore the historic town of Alnwick. It is within walking distance of Alnwick Castle, a splendid medieval fortress which dominates, home to the Duke of Northumberland and famous for its starring role in TV and films including Harry Potter. Right next door is the Alnwick Garden, a magical place for adults and children alike with its magnificent Treehouse restaurant and poison garden.

The old station houses Barter Books and one of the largest second hand bookshops in Europe. Learn more about Alnwick through the ages with a visit to the Baliffgate museum. For the evening's entertainment Alnwick has a choice of eateries or perhaps a film or theatre at the Alnwick Playhouse.

Holy IslandA short car or bus ride takes you to the stunning Northumberland coast and iconic views such as Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh Castles plus mile upon mile of empty beaches and golden sand. The Northumberland coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a wildlife haven especially for waders and sea birds. One of the best ways to experience the dramatic coastline is a boat trip to the Farne Islands or to drive across the causeway to the mystical and historic Holy Island.
